Hong Kong Day 1

We slept in to 8:00am OMG! Seriously that is a good sleep in for us! We went upstairs for the hotel breakfast that was included in our package. It wasn't that crash hot but was sufficient and free. They had two types of cereal, a custom eggs station with omelette, scrambles, boiled and fried. I had a ham, cheese, onion and tomato omelette every day. Plus toast/bread and a few dry pastries, some fruit, a breakfast meat bacon or sausage, noodles or rice (it varied) fried fish, baked beans, yoghurt, salad, corned beef sandwiches, Chinese stir fry veggies, blue cheese and soggy sao's with carrot sticks and prunes and some sort of dumpling/steamed bun. It was a weird mix and most wasn't the best tasting but you can't beat cooked to order omelette and toast.

We then set off to the closest MTR station which was Jordan. Barely a 5 min walk. We quickly worked out what line we needed to be on and off we went. The public transport system in Hong Kong is pretty much flawless. It is so easy to understand, cheap and efficient. There is signage everywhere is English and Chinese.

We got off at Central and followed the signs to the Peak Tram Terminus. We brought our tickets for the return journey and admission to Madame Tussauds. We were going to buy the extra part which was entry to the viewing area right at the top, but the girls selling us tickets said it wasn't a clear enough day to be worth it and if we really wanted to we could add on up there. I thought this was really nice and honest for a major tourist attraction.

We lined up and it was already busy, although we only waited about 15 minutes. We jumped on the tram and it was a nice ride up. The view was pretty good and you could really feel how steep it was with the pull of gravity.

We got to the top and went through Madame Tussauds which was fun. Then we browsed the shops and took in the view some more before heading back down. We then walked back through the Central district and headed to the Star Ferry pier. We got a little lost as neither of us really knew where we were going. We finally realised we had to go up and over the road. We made it and took the ferry back across the Harbour. We then walked to the MTR at Tsim Sha Tsui and caught it to Wong Tai Sin where it brings you straight out at the Wong Tai Sin Temple. First we went into the adjacent shopping centre to find lunch. We ended up in Cafe De Coral. We studied the menu for awhile and ordered our meals. I got a small simple BBQ pork and rice and Steve got a sizzling plate. It was nice enough and hit the spot. With two soft drinks it came to a grand total of $9.50. Awesome value!

Anyway we then headed to the temple to walk through and also find a fortune teller. We found one that spoke English and negotiated a price. He wanted $600 HKD for a palm and face reading but I thought this was a bit steep at around $85AU each. I changed it to $600 HKD for two palm readings so we each got something done. In mine he said I was very lucky. He said a lot of money come easy to me and I will be lucky until 2015. He said I will live to be at least 85 but to watch some sort of woman problems around my 60's. He said to also watch my blood pressure and I may have some slight problems with my lower back. He said I would be safe to travel but not to do any diving over deep water. He said I will probably have one more child ... Steve's was pretty good too, although I kinda forget what he said about him. Mostly about business, to keep ploughing on as it would all come good. I thought this was pretty good as he knew nothing about us to begin with. Anyway after the readings we went for the walk through the temple which was quite beautiful.

We then caught the MTR back to the hotel. I stopped off at Maxims to buy Steve a birthday treat as it was actually his 40th birthday that day. We also found out it was China's Birthday too and they were having a big firework display over the harbour that night. Not in the mood to battle crowds we chilled in the hotel room and later ran across the road for Macca's for dinner followed by the yummy desserts. Fine dining was to come later.

Mmm. yummy surprises
