Hong Kong Arrival

So it was decided Steve and I would get away on our own for his 40th Birthday. Mum donated her time as babysitter as a present and we jetted off for Hong Kong on the 30th September for 5 nights.

We got mum to drop us off to the train station at around 10:30am. Our flight was with Virgin Atlantic and departed at 2:25pm. We took the train to Central and changed to the airport line. We made it with plenty of time, or so we thought. We checked in no problems but leaving through immigration was chaotic. The lines were like giant snakes throughout the building. It took us some time to even find the end of the queue. We finally made it through and had time for some Macca's for lunch and a quick browse through the bookshop before we boarded. I picked up The Help. It wasn't a bad read. The flight was fairly uneventful. I spent it reading and finishing off Season 4 of True Blood which I had loaded up on the iPad.

Dinner

Really nice bean salad with balsamic

Chicken and rice. Was ok

Chocolate mousse cake

Breakfast - Quiche Lorraine

Nice little amenity kit - Pen, eye mask, toothbrush, toothpaste and a pair of socks.

We landed on time at around 10:55pm local time. (Sydney is 3 hours in front). It didn't take too long to get through immigration/customs and we walked out and there was a guy with a sign with our name on it. We followed him to some seats to wait for the rest of the people on the bus. While we waited I purchased our Octopus cards. Octopus cards are used mostly for the public transport system. You can use them on buses, trains (MTR), the ferry, some taxi's and 7eleven and McDonalds etc. You pay $150 HKD and that includes the $50 refundable deposit and $100 of credit. It is a brilliant system and so easy to use. Just swipe and the turnstile opens. You can check the balance and top up with more credit at any MTR station.

Anyway it wasn't long before everyone was there and we all followed the guy to our buses. There was one drop off before us but before we knew it we were at the Nathan Hotel. It was a nice little place situated right on Nathan Rd and just a few short blocks from the Jordan MTR. We both had a shower and quickly fell asleep.
